Whilst at the Santa Marina Retreat it is fun to discover a little of the history, culture and other points of interest that make Cyprus such a special island…



Last summer, the Horse Visitor's Centre was opened. Anna Marangou the respected  historian and archaeologist completed the research and the museum reveals plenty of interesting information and exhibits about ....




Horse racing in Cyprus. The Retreat incorporates the island’s largest stud farm  and is home to some of its best race horses.(Encounter with Horses - a guided  tour is also available)


The history of the horse in Cyprus. In days gone by, a man considered his horse or donkey his greatest asset and both (along with camels) were used to transport people and goods from one place to the other. In the past, the journey from Limassol to Nicosia took two days with an overnight stay at Skarinou or Zygi!

Recently we have placed new information boards along the footpath to Lake Mangheleni so that visitors can really enjoy the island/'s natural

treasures including butterflies and birds and down by the lake there is information about the Koi Carp.

Close to our yearlings/' enclosure you will find plenty of fun facts
about horses... Information boards are written in Greek and English.

The new children/'s activity book which focuses on horses has recently been published in both Greek and English and is great fun for children of all ages - and educational too!

The activity book is available from Reception and is priced five Euros which includes a packet of colouring pencils so you can start work straight away....
